Meeting Begins
Meeting called to order at 1:33 p.m. by Dr. Marcus McWaters.
Guideline Issue — Article I: The Faculty, Section A. Composition
The Faculty consists of all persons employed within the Department at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, or University Professor. In addition, for each rank, the Faculty-at-rank consists of all Faculty at or above that rank.
Dr. McWaters opened the floor for discussion for new verbiage to Article I, Section A. Discussion held. Dr. Mc Waters will send out recommendation to faculty for review.
External Reviews
Dr. McWaters gave an overview of the external reviews in 2001 and again in 2002 and noted that the department is able to document that their recommendations have been followed. He then asked the faculty to please send him names of one or more persons who may be considered as an external reviewer along with their credentials.
Summer 2009
Assignment of summer 2009 Courses memo from Kofi Glover, Associate Provost was distributed. Dr. McWaters advised that it is now required to have a “Summer Hiring Policy Statement” in the departmental guidelines. Opened the floor for discussion; discussion held. An e-vote will be held on the amendment. Noted that once voted upon, the amendment must age 20 days before implementation.
Selection of Chair
Dr. McWaters explained that this is the spring of the third year of this chairmanship and per the guidelines, the general faculty shall elect six members of a Search Committee and the Dean shall select the seventh member of the Committee. He announced that he would like to continue as chair. Opened the floor for committee nominations, nominations given, ballots and proxy ballots distributed, collected and counted. The Search Committee is as follows:

Dr. McWaters called for any further business.
