The Graduate Scholarships and Fellowships Program (GSFP)
The GSFP helps current or prospective graduate students locate and apply for external sources of graduate funding to be used at USF or other institutions, both in the U.S. and abroad. The GSFP maintains a library of references, information and applications on a variety of award programs. It also offers a computer database search of over 20,000 potential aid sources. Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is accepting applications for the Graduate Fellowship National Competition for the support of First-Year Graduate or Professional Study Students. 60 Graduate Fellowships of $5,000 each and 40 Awards of Excellence of $2,000 each for post-graduate study will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to apply for a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship, interested persons must be an active member of Phi Kappa Phi (annual dues paid by March 31, 2008) or have accepted membership by June 30, 2008. Applications will be accepted from individuals invited to membership but not yet initiated. To be invited to membership you must have a 3.5 GPA and be in the top 10% of the Senior class.
Applicants must have applied to enroll as a full-time student in their first year of post-baccalaureate (graduate) program of study for the 2008-2009 academic year. The awards are intended to support students undertaking first-year graduate study on a full-time basis. THE APPLICANT MAY NOT HAVE EARNED CREDIT FOR A FULL TERM OF GRADUATE STUDY OR ITS EQUIVALENT PRIOR TO THE 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR.
THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 1, 2008. Applications may be obtained from Judy Drawdy, Chapter Assistant in SOC 260 during the hours of 9:00a-1:00p and 2:30p-4:40p during the work week. Sorry, we cannot fax or e-mail the applications but they are available online via the Phi Kappa Phi website at www.phikappaphi.org. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Special Note to all Applicants: Don't rely on just grade point averages. The percentage of nominees with a GPA of 4.0 is fairly high, but even a 4.0 is no
guarantee of being awarded the fellowship. Achievements, other than grades, are
frequently the deciding factors. Other scholarly activities such as publications,
research efforts, art works, school or public service activities, or any special activities, are an important consideration in the selection.
Applicants for the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) undergraduate scholarship and graduate fellowship programs must send the department a written notification of their intention to apply by Monday, April 30, 2007. Applications and transcripts must be postmarked by Monday, May 21, and references sent by Tuesday, May 29. This DHS competition for scholarships and fellowships is for study beginning Fall 2008 in areas of study deemed relevant to the department's mission such as: “physical, biological, social, and behavioral sciences, engineering, mathematics, and computer science”. DHS materials describe the awards as providing “competitive stipends and tuition allowances”. The program supports up to 100 new students each year at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Thanks to our colleagues at AAU.
All U.S. Citizens and permanent-residents, first- or second-year graduate students are eligible. Applications are to be sent in the Fall.
These fellowships provide up to 18 credits and a $10,000 stipend to outstanding
new doctoral students on a highly competitive basis. For Ph.D. and Ed.D. candidates only, these fellowships are also open to international students. Candidates are nominated by program faculty or departmental chairs. All eligible persons submitting completed applications by the published deadline will be considered.
These scholarships are awarded to outstanding U.K. and French postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students — all subjects — to study or carry out research for an academic year on the other side of the Channel.

The foundation's American Fellowships are designed to support women doctoral candidates completing dissertations or scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave from accredited institutions. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of scholarly excellence, teaching experience, and active commitment to helping women and girls through service in their communities, professions, or fields of research.
Candidates may apply for only one of the following awards:
- Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowships — one-year support for women who will have earned a doctoral degree by November 15, 2007. To qualify, applicants must have completed all coursework, passed all required preliminary examinations, and received approval for their research proposal or plan by November 15, 2007. Students holding any fellowship for writing a dissertation in the year prior to the AAUW Educational Foundation fellowship year are not eligible. Open to applicants in all fields of study, except engineering. (For engineering, see the foundation's Selected Professions Fellowships.) (Award amount: $20,000.)
- Summer/Short-Term Research Publication Grants — fund women college and university faculty and independent researchers to prepare research for publication. Applicants may be tenure track, part-time, or temporary faculty or new or established scholars and researchers at universities. Time must be available for eight consecutive weeks of final writing, editing, and responding to issues raised in critical reviews. Funds cannot be used for undertaking research.
