Teaching Assistantships
Each year approximately 55 teaching assistantships are awarded on a competitive
basis to selected current or newly-admitted graduate students in the Department
of Mathematics. Students holding the assistantships perform instructional duties
for an average of 20 hours per week. The assistantship provides the student with
competitive stipends, tuition waiver and employer's contribution for their health
insurance. Students are required to be enrolled in 9 credit hours every semester
(Fall/Spring) and in good standing. Summer funding is also available through the
assistantships. Application deadlines are February 1st (Fall) and August 1st
(Spring). General Information on Graduate Assistantships is available at the
USF Graduate School web site.
Presidential Doctoral Fellowships
USF provides $20,000/year in addition to full tuition, fees and health
insurance to the most outstanding applicants to USF doctoral programs. This
fellowship is renewable for 5 years.
University Graduate Fellowships
With the department's nomination, an outstanding applicant (to an M.A. or
Ph.D. program) will receive the award of $10,000 in the first academic year
(non-renewable). The recipient will also be eligible for a tuition waiver.
Dean's Excellence Awards
Outstanding applicants nominated by the department are offered the stipend of
$15,000 in the combination of a Teaching Assistantship and this award for 4
years. The recipient will also be eligible for a tuition waiver.
Tharp Scholarship

graduate students selected by the department receive this cash award ranging from
$1,000 to $5,000.
To be considered for the above five scholarships, a Teaching Assistantship
