2010 Summer Program for Gifted and High Ability Students

The Program is open to high ability students who meet the State of Florida criteria for the gifted, and for those students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
The Program consists of two levels:
- Level 1 is for students entering grades 8, 9 and 10.
- Level 2 is for students entering grades 11 and 12.
The Program takes place on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida.
Level 1 starts on June 14 and ends on July 22, 2010.
Level 2 starts on June 14 and ends on July 22, 2010.
Classes meet Monday — Friday, 9:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m.
The Program offers instruction in the foundations and methodology of mathematics with topics selected from finite mathematics and number theory, with emphasis on real-life applications. Computers are used to write programs and solve mathematics and science problems, with emphasis on discovery. Topics from environmental science provide the scientific and laboratory experience. Peaceful resolution of conflict is also studied. Recreational activities form an integral part of the Program.
The instructors are experienced, award-winning faculty and staff at the University of South Florida.

Follow the instructions on page 2. Applications are due by May 1, 2010.
Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.
Students are notified of acceptance by mid-May.
The cost for students admitted into the Level 1 program is $800 for the entire program.
Students accepted into the Level 2 program will be supported by the dual credit agreement between USF and the counties involved. Students applying to the program must provide a consent statement from their school counselor to enroll in MAC 2281 (Engineering Calculus I) or MAS 3105 (Linear Algebra). The fee is approximately $20 for the entire program. Students completing the Level 2 program successfully will receive four (4) college credits from the University of South Florida.
Note: Neither the Level 1 nor the Level 2 program gives high school credit.
