Abstract

We will talk about \(N\)-soliton solutions and the corresponding Hirota conditions through the Hirota direct method. Applications to integrable equations in both \((1+1)\)-dimensions and \((2+1)\)-dimensions will be presented, together with open questions regarding generalized bilinear equations.

Abstract

In this talk, we simply discuss how to obtain the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation from the approximation of Maxwell's equations. The technique is quite universal and can be extended to approximate other nonlinear PDEs with cubic nonlinearity such as modified KdV.

Abstract

We will talk about wave motion in nonlinear media such as ocean waters and optical fibers. Nonlinear and dispersive effects will be discussed, together with rarefaction and compression waves, solitary waves and dispersion asymptotics. The Cauchy problem of the KdV equation and its solitons will be analyzed by the inverse scattering transform.
